This year the apiary grew to 9 colonies, and we invested in more video monitoring and even more sensors for each and every box. As we did this we refined our inspection forms a few times and also finished labeling and properly cataloging all our equipment into the database. We also built a new honey house! Needless to say, it was a busy season so when it came to extraction time we didn’t have the bandwidth or proper equipment to extract each box separately. This is our goal for 2024, to upgrade the extractor to be able to handle 10 deep frames at once, giving us the ability to taste honey from different points in the same nectar flow from the same or different colonies
Being the busy year it was we extracted in 6 batches with a 7th from all the cappings. Below we look at the color, flavor profile, and more of each of these honeys.
