Modern Beekeeping

 FAQs

  • All my equipment is standard Langstroth equipment with medium honey supers and a brood nest of one medium and one deep. I also keep some double nucs that also use standard medium and deep frames.

  • First and foremost it’s the remote capabilities. We live 45 minutes (1.5 hrs with traffic) from our bee yard and knowing if you NEED to make the trip or not is priceless. The other big thing they can potentially tell me is what is happening in the hives like is there a nectar flow on, are they queenright, is the brood nest expanding or contracting and more.

Also, I just like data (:

  • That’s a very tough question to answer because more than one sensor can deliver information that can help you save a colony. That being said when we look at the cost of the sensor and impact on the beekeeper, Id say a temperature and humidity sensor gets you the most bang for you buck simply because it can inform you on the health and productivity od the brood nest and weather or not they are queenright.
